Born in Miramichi, New Brunswick and raised in Eel Ground First Nation, visual artist Mary Brianne McKay showed a fascination and aptitude in painting and drawing from an early age. After encouragement from family and her community, at age 14 Brianne started taking her passion for art more seriously, delving into her artwork further while beginning to sell and display her artwork at markets and pow wows.
Growing up surrounded by the beauty of nature, a loving family and her Mi'kmaq culture, these themes are often present in Brianne's artwork which is recognized by its array of vibrant colors.
Brianne has gained more recognition and support for her work over the years by doing commissions, illustrating children's books, painting murals and teaching an art class for children at Natoaganeg School.
She completed the art fundamentals course at NBCC Miramichi in 2015 and hopes to continue cultivating her artwork and gain new experiences.
